Synopsis
Eli (Denzel Washington) vandrer ensomt gennem det dommedagshærgede ødeland, der en gang var USA. Han har kurs vestover på en mission, som han ikke helt forstår, men ved, at han er nødt til at fuldføre. Han bærer på det eneste eksisterende eksemplar af en bog, som han vil ofre sit liv for at beskytte, fordi den er menneskehedens sidste håb for fremtiden.
Det er kun Carnegie (Gary Oldman) – en selvudnævnt leder af et samfund med tyve og pistolbevæbnede banditter – som forstår, hvilken magt Elis bog har, og han er fast besluttet på at få fingrene i den. It co-stars Ray Stevenson (Punisher: War Zone, HBO’s “Rome”), Jennifer Beals (Devil in a Blue Dress, Showtime's "The L Word"), Frances de la Tour (upcoming Alice in Wonderland, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire), Michael Gambon (Fantastic Mr. Fox, Harry Potter series), Malcolm McDowell (Rob Zombie’s Halloween, HBO’s “Entourage”) and Tom Waits (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, Dracula). It has a run time of approximately 118 minutes and has been rated 15 for some brutal violence and language.
